One year ago today. And what a party it was. The One year ago today. And what a party it was. The Granada Ballroom at The Biltmore is one of those spaces that does the heavy lifting before a single guest walks in. The arched ceilings. The chandeliers. The warmth of that light against the stone — it photographs like a dream and looks even better in person. There’s a reason couples choose this room. It has presence. And then Kim and Robert walked in and made it their own. First dance first. Just the two of them in the middle of that black and white floor, the whole room quiet and watching, everyone holding their breath a little. That’s the moment I’m always waiting for - when it’s just them and the room falls away. And then. The LED glasses came out. The drum line hit the floor. The samba dancers appeared. Glow sticks everywhere. Party does not stop! That’s what I love about this job. The same couple who stood quietly at the altar a few hours earlier at Epiphany Catholic Church — completely present, completely still — were now in the middle of an absolute dance floor takeover in one of the most beautiful ballrooms in South Florida. Three locations. One stunning couple. All done in Three locations. One stunning couple. All done in under an hour! That’s portrait time after a ceremony and honestly, it’s one of my favorite parts of the whole day. We started right where they just got married. A formal portrait on the altar at Epiphany Catholic Church; the candles, the architecture, the light coming through - there’s nothing like it. You just said your vows in this space. It deserves more than a quick snapshot on the way out. Then we stepped outside and found a 1948 Cadillac waiting for them. That car wasn’t just transportation. It was a detail that told you exactly who these two are. Classic. Intentional. Not trying to be trendy. Just trying to be timeless. We got our portraits with the Cadillac, then moved on because they had a party to get to. Back to The Biltmore in time to work through some of the most iconic spots on the property before their guests even knew they’d arrived. The architecture. The grounds. The light at that hour in South Florida is magical. Three locations. Not a single rushed photo. That’s the goal - it’s accomplished from years of experience doing something I love. There’s a moment right before the doors open. The There’s a moment right before the doors open. The music shifts. Everyone stands. And the groom, who has been holding it together all morning , suddenly isn’t. I’ve photographed ceremonies inside some of the most beautiful churches in South Florida, and I’ll tell you: Epiphany Catholic Church has a way of making everything feel significant. The light. The architecture. The weight of what’s actually happening in that room. Robert didn’t see Kim walk in. He heard the room react first. That fraction of a second, when the bride is walking through the doors, is one of my favorite things to photograph. Because it’s the first time he sees his fiance as a bride, all the planning and details lead up to this moment. Twenty years of doing this, and I still hold my breath for that moment every single time. A Catholic ceremony isn’t a quick exchange of vows. It’s a full Mass — rich with tradition, ritual, and meaning. As a photographer, that’s actually a gift. There’s more time. More moments. More space for real emotion to show up without being rushed. After the dress goes on, the room gets quiet in a After the dress goes on, the room gets quiet in a different way. It’s not nervous quiet. It’s the kind of quiet that means *something just became real. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I still feel that moment every single time. Kim got ready at The Biltmore — and there was this point, right after everything came together, where everyone around her just stopped. Her people. Her mom. All of them. Nobody said anything. They didn’t need to. That’s what I’m there for. Not to direct the moment — just to be ready for it. Kim was stunning, but more than that, she was calm. Happy. Completely herself. And that’s what I want to photograph. Not a performance. Just her, in one of the most significant moments of her life, surrounded by the people she loves most. We had a beautiful morning at The Biltmore before heading over to Epiphany Catholic Church, and I spent most of it trying to stay out of the way while staying completely present. That’s the job. Five years from now, ten years from now — those getting ready photos won’t just be pretty pictures. They’ll bring the whole morning back. Scroll through for some of the prettiest mismatched spring colors and gorgeous florals I’ve photographed all season. 🌸 Some couples have a wedding party of four. Brooke and Justin had a full house, and I loved every second of it! Big families, best friends since childhood, cousins who are basically siblings. My approach with a large wedding party is always the same: build in a little extra timeline time so we can get the polished formal shot, and then just let everyone be a group.
