This is why I love connecting with couples before their wedding day.Jennifer and Josh gave me two of the most beautiful locations South Florida has to offer.We started at Fairchild Tropical Garden as the late afternoon light started filtering through the canopy, and ended up at Matheson Hammock Park just in time for the sun to drop behind the palms with the Miami skyline sitting quietly in the background. Two completely different moods, one incredible afternoon.The engagement session is not just about the photos. It is about getting comfortable with each other before the wedding day. By the time @jenniferdeutch and @jlev02 walk down the aisle this weekend in South Miami, the camera will feel like an old friend. Emily and Conor’s engagement session at Matheson Hammock Park is everything I love about late afternoon light in South Florida. The golden hour here does something almost cinematic, wrapping around the palm trees, skimming across the water, and finding the people standing in it.These two made it easy. Conor in his navy blazer and Emily in that clean white mini dress, they looked like they were already headed to dinner after the session, which honestly is the best way to end an evening like this one.If I could give anyone three pieces of advice before their engagement session, it would be this: be yourself, dress like you are going on a date with your favorite person, and trust the late afternoon light.As a photographer it is something I am always chasing, and evenings like this one remind me exactly why. My favorite bonus suggestion is to make a dinner reservation for after. He didn’t even make it all the way around.Rachel walked up behind Adam and the moment he turned - hand over his mouth, tears already there. I knew this first look was going to be special. A few minutes in a garden at Boca West, just the two of them, and there was more emotion packed into that small window of time than most people experience in a whole day.That’s the thing about first looks that I don’t think gets talked about enough. Whether you see each other before the ceremony or for the first time at the end of the aisle, that moment is yours. It’s quiet and overwhelming all at once. Adam kissed her hands.
